CHILDREN

Wesley's children's ministry aims to nurture the spiritual growth of children (pre-K to grade 5) in a safe, caring and creative Christian environment. Kids will grow in their knowledge of God through activities in art, cooking & games, storytelling & drama, and science. Classes are divided by age except during the summer when an all-ages Sunday School is offered.

On Sunday mornings, preschool children up through middle-high aged youth usually begin in the sanctuary for the 10:30 am Worship and then head to the chapel after the Children's Sermon. In the chapel, the teachers introduce the Bible story in our large group time, and the children then break into small groups for class time.  For more information, contact Wesley's Program Director, Misty Griffith, (224-7413 or misty@concordwumc.org).

Our curriculum is Cokesbury's Deep Blue Connects: At Home with God.

The philosophy of the curriculum is B.L.U.E.

        • Be with God

        • Love God and neighbor.

        • Understand yourself as a child of God.

        • Explore faith and the Bible.

Nursery/Child Care  We provide safe, loving care for infants and toddlers during the 10:30 am Sunday worship service.

YOUTH

Sunday School  is offered at about 10:30 am - just after the children's message ends in Worship (September to mid-June). The Middle High class meets in Hanna Hall and the Senior Highs meet in the Youth Room.

Youth Groups  Youth in grades 6-8  typically meet to enjoy fun and meaningful activities in a safe, supportive Christian environment.  The Senior High youth will grow in faith through service projects and dialogue with their leaders.

Summer Mission Programs  Each year, Wesley youth spend a week or so working to help others. Together with their adult chaperones, the youth choose a mission program and raise the funds necessary to cover their costs.

Leaders In Training  Senior high youth (grades 9-12) have the opportunity to assist with kids classes and also to help teach or lead during Vacation Bible Camp in the summer. A short training session will be provided.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Vacation Bible Camp  Each summer Wesley has a wonderful VBS for children ages 3 through 6th grade which typically is held from 9 am to noon for one week (M-F). This program is free and open to the community.

Church "Holidays"  At special times of the church year, there is usually an extra-fun program for your children. For example, there is usually a birthday party on Pentecost, a life-size Palm Sunday board game, and a gift-making party (for homebound friends) during Advent. Of course, let's not forget the Christmas Pageant!  At all Wesley events, ALL kids and youth are welcome!

Performance Opportunities  Periodically children and youth have the chance to perform or participate in the Worship service or in another event going on. Our leaders are flexible in finding a suitable way for each kid to participate.
