United Methodist Women
The UMW: FAITH, HOPE & LOVE IN ACTION
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is more than 800,000 members strong, devoted to educating and caring for women and children of the world who need help.
At Wesley UMC, there are more than 75 UMW members. All members belong to "the unit", which meets about once a month. We are dedicated to learning the needs of women and children world-wide and taking action. We have a reading program and are concerned about social action issues. We actively support a missionary in Nicaragua and raise funds for Wesley UMC and other causes.
READ BOOKS AND SUPPORT UMW
You can support United Methodist Women by reading books from the Reading Program. The books are on the cart in front of the Parlor. Sign out a book, read 5 books (1 from each catagory), fill out the form, and you will received a certificateand help our unit meet its goals.
This month's book is The Dressmaker of Khair Khana by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon (Lg. Print Ed.). Can you imagine being a young Afgan woman who has just received a teaching degree as your town falls to the Taliban? Kamila must now live under cruel laws and find a way to help her family survive. A captivating true story of a family's life in a war zone. An education for mission book.
Many UMW women also participate in one or more Circles:
Because we eat, work and pray together we form friendships, which is part of our purpose. All women -- Wesley members and non-members -- are welcome to our group.
