ANNOUNCEMENTS

FEBRUARY INGATHERING Wesley’s Abbot-Downing team will be collecting tuna fish, peanut butter, and jam/jelly for the End 68 Hours of Hunger program. No glass jars, please. This important program is currently serving 18 children each weekend.

LENTEN SERMON SERIES Throughout Lent, Peter will preach a sermon series on the Lord’s Prayer. Each Sunday, he will explore phrases from the prayer, sharing its richest meaning and imparting a fuller understanding of this prayer which is a cornerstone of our faith.

SAVE THE DATES- 2018 LENTEN LUNCHEONS

The 2018 Lenten Luncheon series will be held on Thursdays at Bow Mills UMC from noon to 1 p.m. on the following Thursdays: February 22, March 1, 8, 15, and 22. The Greater Concord Interfaith Council is pleased to continue offering this historic luncheon series as an opportunity for fellowship and spiritual growth. The ticket price is $7.00 per person, with proceeds benefiting Friends of Forgotten Children.

READING WITH THE PASTOR Peter gained inspiration for the Lenten sermon series from the book “The Greatest Prayer” by John Dominic Crossan. You are invited to read this book during Lent and join Peter for a discussion of the book, as well as the sermon series, on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m.

YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL Regular age-grouped Sunday School classes for kids and teens begin at 10:30 am. Many kids and teens join the Gathering Time in the Sanctuary at 10:15 and then are dismissed to their classrooms just after 10:30 (after Children's Time).

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL This class meets on Sundays at 9:00 am in the Parlor. Currently this group has just begun the GOSPEL OF JOHN. John’s gospel is weighted with symbolism, and with some of the most memorable images we have of Jesus. The class requires no outside reading! Instead, the class will read John’s gospel aloud, chapter-by-chapter and engage in discussion guided by teacher Byron Champlin.

WOMEN’S BOOK STUDY This group will meet in the chapel on Saturday, February 17 at 9:00 a.m.

MIDDLE HIGH YOUTH "FROZEN" EVENT Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to join us on Sat., Feb. 17 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. for an afternoon preparing some frozen meals for Family Promise and watching the movie "Frozen."

CHOIR & HANDBELLS Rehease Thursdays The Jubellation Handbell Choir will rehearse at 6:15 p.m. and the Sanctuary Choir will rehearse at 7:15. Both rehearsals will take place in the church sanctuary. Contact Ben Greene for more information at bengreene820@gmail.com.

SPORTS Stuff Drive Bob and Mary Ann Wolfe continue to collect gently used outdoor soccer shoes, shin guards and long sleeved jerseys/fleeces for Concord's New American population. If you have anything to share, please drop off at Wesley UMC.

VOLUNTEER REQUEST The Housing First program of the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness seeks volunteers to drive clients to shop at the grocery store or food pantry. For more information or to volunteer, contact Angela Spinney at angela@concordhomeless.org or 603-290-3375. Volunteers aged 55 or over are encouraged to apply to RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) through the Friends Program at 228-7615. Once accepted, they provide volunteers with insurance while driving for the program. Please specify that you are volunteering for the Housing First Program of CCEH to expedite the connection from them to CCEH.

Box Tops Abbot-Downing School thanks everyone for the Box Tops! Keep 'em coming! You can cut them off labels of many boxed/packaged food products. Drop off box in narthex.

Used Eyeglass Collection The Lions Club collects eyeglasses to send to developing countries. Please bring your old ones to the church office or to Spencer Kingsland. Thanks!

Our Church is on TV If you can't be here on Sunday, that doesn't mean you have to miss the service. Concord TV, Channel 22, shows our service during the week: Tuesday 4:30pm, Wednesday 2:00pm, Thursday 10:30am, Friday 7am, Sunday 1:30pm and Monday 10:30am.
