Adult Sunday School Studies Isaiah The Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah is foundational to the Christian faith. Jesus quotes or paraphrases Isaiah in the Gospels. Paul does the same in his epistles. If you enjoy Handel’s Messiah every Christmas, you are familiar with the Book of Isaiah, which provides more than 20 verses in the libretto. Isaiah’s is not one voice, but several, spanning three traumatic centuries of Jewish history. Responding disastrous international alliances and shaken faith, Isaiah proclaims the enduring love of God for his people with the promise of a new leader who will restore God’s kingdom for Israel and all the nations. Adult Sunday school begins a study of Isaiah on Sunday, September 12, at 9 a.m. The book will be read and discussed in class and no outside reading will be required. Byron Champlin will lead an online class via Zoom at this link. A parallel, in-person class observing social distancing protocols will be led by Ben Venator in the Wesley Church parlor starting on September 19. Join us for this study of Isaiah!
