At Wesley, we   Go to Serve  by using our hands and feet, our minds and resources to share God's love and compassion with neighbors - next door and around the world.

  • united methodist women

The Wesley UMW group is dedicated to learning the needs of women and children world-wide and taking action. This group engages a reading program, is concerned about social action, supports a missionary and local projects.

Many UMW women also participate in one or more small groups for more fellowship and more flexible meeting times.

UMW meets about once a month, usually the first Monday @ 1 pm.

  • Abbot-Downing Team

This team works to support the children of Abbot-Downing School, the elementary school around the corner from the church. Wesley volunteers read with children, assist at the school health fair, and support teachers as needed. Periodically, the team promotes church-wide in-gatherings of school supplies as well as food for the weekend backpacks to needy children. Additionally, the Wesley team raises funds to provide children with specific emergency needs.

  • United Methodist Committee on Relief

As natural disasters occur around the world, "UMCOR" responds to the need. Depending on the reserves in various warehouses around the US and the world, UMCOR asks churches to help replenish the stores. They often need flood buckets, hygiene kits, and school kits. Several Wesley groups periodically do UMCOR drives. To learn about UMCOR, check out this video.

  • family promise

Wesley's Family Promise Team, together with other churches in the capital area, provides homeless families with free temporary housing and hospitality while they are working on addressing other issues contributing to their situation. This program helps struggling families achieve long-lasting independence.

  • Missions

Each summer, Wesley sends at least one mission team to help those in need while also deepening their faith and connection to God. Plus, it's fun! The team works hard all day, but gets some free time to play games or hang out at night. Usually, there is also a fun day built into the schedule!

  • Social Justice

Wesley UMC is a member of the Reconciling Ministries Network, an organization that promotes equality for all persons within the life and leadership of the church around the world. In addition to efforts of Wesley folks on LBGTQ issues, church members also periodically educate, collect funds, and/or promote participation in other social justice movements.

  • Wesley Friendly Kitchen Team

The Friendly Kitchen is the primary soup kitchen here in Concord, serving more than 50,000 free meals per year. For many years, Wesley Church has fielded a team of volunteers who organize, prepare, and serve hearty dinners to our neighbors at The Friendly Kitchen. Once a month, the Wesley team provides service with a smile and they do all the clean up too!

  • Short-term response

Wesley's local responders partner with other local agencies to know when specific needs are acute. Sometimes these folks collect used furniture for a homeless person who finally got housing, detergent for the homeless resource center, sheets for the domestic violence center and so on.

  • Concord Comcast Channel 22

  • Fifth sunday food drive

On every fifth Sunday of the year, Wesley collects food for the hungry.  Currently this food is helping stock the food pantry at Concord’s Second Start Alternative High School. Many students in this program live independently and have little income. Please bring food that can be prepared without a stove (microwaveable ok). Ideas: Ramen, mac & cheese, chips, pop-tarts, granola bars, crackers & peanut butter.
